Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior official commented the vandalism made him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
